Dr. Terrece Pearman’s IP practice includes patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and identifying IP strategies that are unique to each client’s needs.  She has experience prosecuting U.S. patents and trademarks, international patent applications (PCT), and working with foreign counsel to secure patent rights in foreign countries. Terrece has experience analyzing patent search results and draft freedom to operate (FTO) opinions.  She has counseled clients on nonpatent exclusivities available through FDA and foreign equivalents-i.e. orphan and pediatric exclusivities, and Patent Term Extension (PTE).  Terrece has drafted applications for PTE to extend exclusivity for medical products.

Terrece has worked with companies of varying sizes, including national companies, mid-sized companies, small companies, and start-ups, as well as academic institutions.  She understands the different needs of each.

Experience

Prior to entering the practice of law, Terrece worked as a research scientist in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.  She was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Huntsman Cancer Institute.  She then worked as a research scientist in the private sector of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry at companies that include Myriad Genetics, NPS Pharmaceuticals, and Q Therapeutics.  Upon entering the practice of law, Terrece assisted some of these same companies with their IP needs.  She provided IP counsel for medical device companies, clean energy companies, and those developing other areas of biological and chemical technologies.  She also worked at the University of Utah Technology & Venture Commercialization Office helping faculty commercialize inventions.
